The Newest Innovation In Tableware Products

by Tom Roamfar on June 30, 2009

It has to be said that we live in a rather wasteful society. Close to 20mil cups, plates and other utensils are disposed of every day in the UK and US, causing a vast amount of unprocessable landfill. We obviously need our tableware and no one is suggesting that we look into alternative ways of eating or socialising, but surely there is a more ‘green’ alternative? Well an innovative company based in Richmond think they have the solution.

They have developed a complete range of biodegradable and compostable tableware that can be used in exactly the same way as ordinary products. They are free from chemicals and can be cleaned like ordinary pieces. The difference is that when they are thrown away, they will break down and provide nutrients for microbes and plant matter.

The company has been given a thumbs up from eco organisations and by local government, picking up a few important awards for their efforts. New Visions, a not-for-profit organization that helps out developing companies provided them with their latest accolade.

$1,500 was the fund awarded to the company, which they plan to put towards further development work. Cutlery, saucers and plates are among the 30 products that they currently have in their collection. They are looking into making more utensils such a bottle opener and more detailed pieces like designer cheese knives

Jocelyn Tice who is responsible for building the company from start has suggested that she would like nothing more than to see her innovative tableware in shops all over the globe. “the is no limit to where it can be used” she stated. Waste production will be reduced dramatically, which will have the knock on effect of bringing down everyone’s costs.

Additional to her newest tableware concepts, Jocelyn is now researching products from various industry sectors with the hope of applying the technology there also.  She has also been approached by a number of larger companies who are interested in incorporating her products into their own table and glassware
